Endovenous therapy with the simLa® 6 is characterized by simple processes and is easy to perform in outpatient medical practice. Local anesthesia can be dispensed with, because the particularly gentle venous laser ensures relatively painless application, so patients are fit straight after the procedure. An added benefit is that compression stockings need only to be worn for a brief period, so there are no problems in the summer, either.

An insight into the practice of endovenous therapy at 1940 nm:

Experienced phlebologist and vascular surgeon Dr. Jürgen Schreiner from Dachau Specialist Vascular Surgery Clinic shows how he uses the simLa® 6 venous laser.

With endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) at a wavelength of 1940 nm, it is Dr. Schreiner’s experience that anesthesia is not required. He starts the procedure by disinfecting and covering the area with sterile material. The diameter of the veins is determined by ultrasound to enable him to set the ideal laser output.

The veins are then punctured, guided by ultrasound. The catheter diameter selected decides whether an introducer or an indwelling cannula is used. After the catheter has been introduced, it is positioned with precision. Dr. Schreiner triggers the venous laser using the foot pedal on the simLa 6, and continuously withdraws the catheter at a speed of about 1 mm/s. The output of the venous laser is modified depending on vein diameter.

What is extremely important is the continuous ultrasound. Dr. Schreiner observes precisely whether the occlusion/change in the vein is adequate. If necessary, he will repeat individual sections, especially at the mouths of accessory veins or at dilated sections of vein.

The material is removed once the outcome is satisfactory. A plaster is sufficient as after-care. For compression, he uses either a Class 2 stocking or short-stretch bandages – and then only for a duration of 48 hours.
Dr. Schreiner has hitherto used this endovenous therapy to treat over 250 people with great success. Follow-up examinations over a period of two years show a very satisfactory occlusion rate of over 90 %.
